Tales from the Tests: From Failing to Flying Colors

By Guest Blogger Jessica Garland, Financial Representative, Des Moines, IA

My experience with the Unleash Your Practice® Group Coaching calls over the last couple of months has already started to make a tremendous impact on me. I have always thought that “you don’t know what you don’t know” in relation to this business. Starting the calls has made me realize there is a great deal of information about myself that I have yet to learn as well. Alissa has helped me open the door to find out more about what makes me tick, how to use my strengths, how to identify what is truly important to me and hurdle what may get in the way.

Before I entered the business, I believed I was a horrible test taker and was so relieved when I graduated college that exam taking would be something of my past. What I soon found out, as a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual, is that we take a great number of exams - life, health, 6, 63, 65, 7, every other number possible….. and then some CLU’s and other alphabet soup. It is almost never ending.

Fortunately for me, I met Alissa. She has taught me to simply be a better exam taker by listening to my own body’s cues, controlling the inner lizard during some difficult questions, and so many other small things about myself that I didn’t know how to identify and process. Learning from Alissa on how to use my body/brain more, has been a remarkable growth opportunity. I soon went from failing or barely passing exams to passing them with flying colors and scoring 15+ questions past the minimum passing score. My office started calling me the “exam specialist.”

To sum it up, the Group Coaching Calls have been a game changer in my business. I went from not really knowing much about myself and not really being comfortable in my own skin at times, to becoming more and more of an expert on myself and what I really want out of my business. This has helped me with self confidence, interactions with clients, staff, and even family and friends.
